Page 1 of 4 Now in its seventh year, the SA Army Artillery Formation presented their annual Open Day and firepower demonstration at Potchefstroom on Saturday 29 August 2009. The format received a few changes this year with all visitors parking in the demarcated area at the Regiment and not at the firing range.
In close proximity to the parking area was the static display which included a large number of Artillery and their relevant support equipment. A G6 performed mounting and dismounting of its enormous transporter on a regular basis. While the Vulture UAV launch and recovery systems proved very popular with the visitors. During the course of the morning, two Oryxes from 17 Sqdn arrived and after circling the static area landed in a demarcated area adjacent to the Artillery static equipment. These helicopters quickly draw a crowd and in full view of the visitors members of 17 Sqdn and the Artillery started to prepare the various cargo nets for the demonstration. In the mean time buses arrived to transport the visitors to the demonstration area. ![]() 105mm Gun and transporter |
