This extremely popular and successful small country airshow is always a pleasure to attend. Only a short (2.5 hour or so) pleasant drive from Johannesburg through a beautiful part of the country it is well worth attending. The breakfast is always a welcome sight accompanied with homemade country breads, so don’t eat along the way.

2009 saw some changes and an upgrade of the event to a mini-airshow in addition to the over 70 aircraft flying in for the day. The facilities and airfield were in absolutely immaculate condition with more than sufficient food and drinks vendors in evidence. Well done to the organising committee.

Being a smaller event the spectators are able to become more intimately involved with the participants. This was evidenced when two (very happy) youngsters were invited to assist the parachutists in packing her chute after a jump. Speaking of parachutists, Graham Field and the lovely Mariekie performed many jumps from a variety of aircraft ranging from a solo jump from a microlight through racing CC Pococks’s Cessna down from altitude to a dual jump from two microlights. And if time had allowed it even a helicopter was being lined up. These guys are just plain crazy.
