Meetings:

Club meetings are held once a month on a Saturday afternoon, usually accompanied with a braai and lots and lots of modelling discussions, show-offs of latest completed masterpieces, discussion of new techniques acquired or tried out as well as subjects revolving around (especially) WW II. Meetings are very informal and everybody (even people that are not members of any modelling club) is welcome to attend.

HISTORY:

IPMS SA, Potchefstroom Chapter had its inception in November 1999 when a few of us modelling buddies decided to launch a scale modelling club under the auspices of IPMS SA, naming our club IPMS Potchefstroom Chapter. Since then we have grown from strength to strength, having successfully hosted (with the co-operation of IPMS Johannesburg and IPMS Vaal triangle) several Public Open Days/Exhibitions of Scale Models in both 2000 and 2001, joint M.O.Y.'s with IPMS Vaal Triangle, holiday modelling courses for school kids etc. It also needs to be mentioned that we competed with considerable success in the 2001 Nationals, bringing home a gold and a silver medal to our humble little city. We currently have 6 senior (i.e. adult) fully paid up members as well as 3 fully paid up junior (i.e. secondary school kids) members who are all frequent contributors to all club activities. In addition a few of our former members (who through work and study pressure can't participate in club activities and modelling full time any more) are always available where extra help is needed with an event like an exhibition etc. The modelling interests of our club members vary greatly, including 1/72 and 1/48 military WW II aeroplanes, 1/48 modern jets, 1/48 WW I aeroplanes, 1/72 and 1/35 WW II armour, 1/20 scale F1 racing cars, 1/24 sedans etc, 1/12 motorbikes, 1/16 and 120mm figures, armour and aircraft dioramas, model railroading and die-cast car collecting. We would like to invite anybody from Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp/Stilfontein, Carletonville/Welverdiend, Orkney, Fochville etc. who are interested in our activities to contact us (particulars supplied below). Special discounted club subscription fees apply for people from outside Potchefstroom wishing to join IPMS Potchefstroom Chapter.
