Page 4 of 4 The bastion of South African Artillery fire power in the form of the G5 howitzer gun system never disappoints and delivered ordnance with pin-point accuracy. In addition the mobile version of the G5 main gun in the form of the G6 arrived and in a very short time after bringing the vehicle to a halt, started engaging targets. ![]() Bateleur system As per usual two Bateleur 40 x 127mm multiple mobile rocket launcher systems fired a full complement of rockets in succession to engage a vast area over a considerable distance. To any military enthusiast this is sight that must be seen and experienced for real. Perhaps the most striking feature of the day was not to be found in the large calibre guns or the various high-tech support equipment or the various engineering principles, but in the men and women who represent the current Gunners fraternity. Throughout the day, they showcased a sense of great pride in their equipment and regiment, and above all are highly motivated and well disciplined. Throughout history this has been the traditions of being “Gunners” as the unstable gun powder in the early days called for very high discipline amongst its members. The next open day with fire power demonstration is scheduled for August 2009. As noted before this is not Hollywood, do bring ear protection, as the firings are very loud and over an extended period of time. IMG would like to thank 4 Artillery Regiment for the media facilities extended to the group. Top photo: A. Dyason. All photos: A. Dyason & P. van Scalkwyk. Photo manipulation: A. Dyason.
