Page 2 of 5 As in the previous year again no wheeled helicopter was present, only skid equipped helicopters. This clearly had to do with the cost of operating these usually bigger helicopters. While walking to the terminal building, the author found one helicopter, which was most likely not included in the count for the day by anyone, but was clearly identifiable as a Bell-47, with its two fuel tanks and round cockpit. The gyrocopters present, were all parked together in a line, offering some unique photography angles and some very attractive paint schemes were present. It was clear that these aircraft were the pride and joy of their owners.

Opening to the 2008 Fly In The opening was delayed for a while in order to allow a few more participants time to arrive due to the weather and the day was officially opened at 11h00. The opening parade consisted of a single Bell 206 Jet Ranger flanked by two R44s which hovered in front of the crowd, while the opening speech was presented. The backdrop for the helicopters was formed by the cranes and buildings of the new 2010 soccer stadium under construction for Polokwane. This served as a good reminder of the important role that helicopters and General Aviation would play during this event.
