This year’s annual fly-in festival in the Mpumalanga town of Groblersdal was a very low key event in comparison to previous years. Never the less it was still extremely well attended by the public and aircraft with over 70 aircraft flying in for the day. This was despite the poor weather over Gauteng which prevented some attendees departing from home base to Groblersdal airfield. (This weather was to wreak havoc 3 days later causing the cancellation of the Rand Airshow for 2008.)

There were a number of displays of various aircraft to entertain the local enthusiasts. This consisted of the Sportcruiser flown by Ian Puntas, a gyrocopter, a Lambada and a Maribou Stork. Demonstrating the practical usage of aviation was a crop sprayer from Marble Hall showing the practical use of aviation at work. Both crop spraying and firefighting applications were shown. The Garmin skydivers were in attendance and performed jumps from various aircraft. Part of the festivities was a spot jump for a cash prize. Graham Field performed a dramatic landing for the winning plate.
