This event seems to be one of the more popular ones in the vicinity and the constant stream of general aviation aircraft arriving (eventually over 80 aircraft had attended this fly-in) attests to this. The variety of aircraft was widespread from microlights all the way to light twins and even a classic airliner. DisplaysScully Levin and Arnie Meneghelli both brought their display teams down to Parys and thrilled the crowds with precision formation flying and aerobatics. In a rare display the Gabriel Pitts display team consisting of the Levin family (Scully, Ellis and Sally) performed a show upon arrival. Sally as yet has not performed at major events and as said before, surely it is a matter of time before she participates actively with her father and brother. She performed the solo display section of the show. The afternoon display was flown by Scully, Ellis and Arnie Meneghelli. Static DisplaysThe vast number of aircraft and helicopters that had arrived with their crew ensured that most tastes were catered for. My personal favourites were the Sanwa River Lodge Bell Heuy helicopter and some 1940/50 light aircraft (Cessna 170 and Auster Arrow) as somehow this generation of aircraft appeal to me (must be nostalgia?) FlipsThe DC3 of Flying Springboks flew in and performed a steady trade all day long flying flips for the enthusiastic locals. There was also a Tiger Moth for those who desired a more intimate flying trip.
Other attractions were a steam engine and a mini hovercraft that provided rides to the public. Parys is close to Johannesburg (around an hour by road) and is a pleasant event for the aviation enthusiast to attend with ease. All photos: C. hugo, F. Hugo. Open photo: F. Hugo.
