Page 1 of 2 This year’s annual Bultfontein Fly-In saw the IMG team visiting this Free State town again to enjoy the country side (resplendent green and ripe for the forthcoming harvests) and hospitality of the country. The folk at Bultfontein (and the other events of this ilk) go out their way to make the visitor feel at home. It must be borne in mind that Fly-Ins are not airshows so the attendee should not expect to see continuous aerobatic displays. These events are mostly a get together for the local flying community with their friends from further afield but there are opportunities for the public to view some displays. It is also about getting up close and personal with the pilots and aircraft and the intimacy of the event sets them aside from the big airshows. None the less these events do provide opportunities for the aviation enthusiast. Bultfontein saw a visiting Britten Norman Islander arrive and was spotted in a prime location for the public to view. A Douglas DC-3 from Springbok Flying Safaris arrived with a number of international aviation enthusiasts on a daytrip to the countryside. An immaculate Comper Swift arrived as well to join in the fun and was also placed in a prime viewing position. Later in the day the public were also treated to another SAAF classic in the form of a Harvard. ![]() A109 LUH SAAF A SAAF Augusta A-109 from Bloemfontein also arrived and the public were welcomed to talk to the crew of this new(ish) SAAF helicopter at the static display of the capabilities of this light utility helicopter. An external hoist with casevac basket for the injured was shown. |
