Meetings:Meetings held on the SECOND Friday of every month, at the McGregor Museum, Kimberley. HISTORY:IPMS Northern Cape was the brain-child of Alex Kriel ( 19/3/1968 - 9/9/1996 ). At first, he was a correspondence member of IPMS Free State. It was his goal to establish a similar club in Kimberley. Eventually Alex Kriel met Peter Thomas and with Wium la Cock became the founding members of the Kimberley Modeller's Society in April 1995. More members joined and the question of IPMS affiliation was voted on. The vote in favour, the club then applied to IPMS SA for affiliation. This was accepted and the club name was changed in July 1995 to "I.P.M.S. Northern Cape inc. Kimberley Modellers Society Alex Kriel was elected as the first Chairman and re-elected for 1996. The first MOY was held at the end of 1995. Sadly the club suffered a big blow at a very early stage with the death of Alex Kriel, on 9 September 1996 after a short illness. Wium la Cock ( Vice Chairman ) took over as chairman. In May 1997, the new 3D Diamond logo was accepted as the club's official logo. This replaced the previous 2D diamond used until the beginning of 1997. The Kimberley Modellers Society hosted the first South African NNL model car show on 6 June 1997. I.P.M.S. NC changed to the Award system for judging competitions at the beginning of 1997. The Award system, with more streamlined rules and an easier judging scorecard was first used in the 1997 Inter-club Competition between the NC and Free State. It proved a great success. The club's history is documented in a comprehensive archive. In February 1998 the Club became Friends of the Military Museum at the Moth Centre in Kimberley. The Police College always accommodated the Club's Monthly Meetings during the first years, for which the Club are most greatful.
