Page 7 of 7 Awards Lunch:
On the Sunday afternoon the Awards lunch was hosted in the main restaurant of the Convention Centre. No fault of IPMS Vaal but the bar opened a bit late but all worked out well in the end. Master of Ceremony was Tappie Scholtz with Marc Cilliers as the outgoing Chairman handing out the prizes. In his speech Tappie Scholtz thanked Faan Venter for all the arrangements, the personnel of the Convention Centre, the Judges, members of IPMS Vaal and each and every member who attended. Without them there would not be a Nationals. He also stated there would be “Happy Modellers” and “not so Happy Modellers…” but everyone took the prize giving in a very positive light. It is hoped the “Happy” fraternity would continue their artwork and the “not so Happy” modellers to further their techniques and return to the next Nats for their turn as hopefully “Happy Modellers”. Everyone who attended at least received a participation certificate. Jaun Beetge received “Best Novice” for his “Ambush” Diorama while finishing second on the day in his category. Remarkably he only started the art of scale modelling six months ago! “Best Junior” went to Christiaan Ho-Tong for “Last Resort”. “Overall Best of Show” went to Donald Currie for his impeccable 24 scale Marlboro Yamaha Moto GP motorbike.
