Page 5 of 7 AGM:The AGM was opened by Marc Cilliers as the current Chairman which was immediately followed by his report back. He also mentioned the very basis of IPMS as being – “For modellers, by modellers”. The current world wide trend is one can only play so many computer games and as one gets older you want to do something constructive and creative. Many go back to the art of scale modelling at home but find that they need to up their skills a bit and therefore return to the IPMS clubs. For this reason a number of the old hands are returning to the hobby and they are most welcome. Marc Cilliers addressing the AGM |
Nats 2007 Cap - best Nats cap ever! | Murray Baxter as the current bean counter presented his report. However it is still shocking that only a few clubs had paid their annual affiliation fees over to the National body. The reason for this was once again explained in plain English as to be able to setup a reserve fund in order to fund the Nationals. For example as there are currently around seven clubs with a membership of around twenty modellers the mathematics are very clear: 7 x R200(R10 x 20) = R1400.00 | As can be seen from this example this leaves an amount which is used to fund the Nats to make it more affordable for everyone to attend. It is hoped over time the fund will build up into an amount which could be invested and the dividends used to fund the Nats. This is where the spirit of “For modellers by modellers” comes in. As IPMS Vaal was a little short on the bill for hosting the Nats despite generous sponsors a request was tabled for access to the Nats fund. This was accepted and the amount will be channelled to IPMS Vaal.
The issue of hosting the Nats in a central venue every year with the possibility of subcontracting the organising of the event to a third party was raised. In a vote as part of a feasibility study the vote resulted in a tie. Due to the current constitution and lack of the National fund this is not possible. Any amendments must be submitted in writing to IPMS SA, three months before the AGM. No amendments were received for AGM 2007. Marc Cilliers urged everyone if they want to change anything to the Constitution it must be submitted in writing within the relevant time frame. Proposals to host the next Nationals were tabled and only Rob Heath of IPMS Pretoria came forward with a proposal. Therefore the next Nationals is hosted by IPMS Pretoria with the venue currently set as somewhere in the East of Pretoria. It’s been almost 20 years since the last convention was staged in Pretoria. Currently the provisional date is set for March 2009. |
