“For modellers by modellers” is the foundation of IPMS (International Plastic Modellers Society) and served as the basis of the organisation ever since its inception in the 1960s by the mother branch in the United Kingdom. This motto was once again experienced by anyone who attended the latest convention hosted by IPMS Vaal despite being one of the smaller branches of IPMS South Africa. The IPMS SA National Convention was staged at the Northern University Conference Centre in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend of 21 – 23 September 2007. This will soon be known as the Quest Conference Centre. IPMS South Africa is the only affiliated branch on the African continent and was founded more than 35 years ago.

Driving through the gates of the Convention Centre the first impression is the place does not look like much, but perceptions soon made way for the warm welcome by members from IPMS Vaal. Their enthusiasm soon rubbed off on all who attended and it showed by the extremely positive attitude expressed by all who attended by the time of the AGM on the Sunday.Martin Blundell attended once again all the way from the UK with some scale rarities for sale. In addition Karel Zaayman from the Aviation Shop offered a variety of the latest kits, accessories, books and other items. Both in the spirit of giving something back to the hobby sponsored prizes for the Nationals.
