Page 4 of 5 First up were the 120mm mortar teams which demonstrated conventional and assisted or boosted ordnance delivery. Impressive fire power from a concept dating back to the First World War. The popular G5 artillery howitzer system was next and two guns engaged the same target as the 120mm mortars with direct fire. Within three rounds both guns scored direct hits to which the crowd enthusiastically applauded. A demonstration of indirect fire over various extended ranges showcased this superior design.
120mm mortar teams | Despite its age the G5 as an integrated system is still highly respected world wide and to this day very few systems can match the capabilities of the G5. Essentially the same gun system was mounted on an armoured chassis as the self propelled gun system known as the G6. Two examples engaged the target with direct fire and demonstrated indirect fire over a considerable distance. | G5 round and propellent | G6 |
