Following the cavalcade a massive parachute jump took place made up of the Golden Eagle parachute team of the SAAF and a number of show display skydivers sponsored by Remax Realty. Upon landing they formed up with Maj Gen Des Barker from SAAF HQ taking the salute. This was followed by a minute silence after which  the silence was broken by the slow fly past of the parachute jump platform, the Cessna Caravan piloted by Riaan Henning, in a slight nose high attitude.

Koos Malan, at 59 years is a Tzaneen air show display regular and this year was no different. He demonstrated the crop sprayer with various aerial liquid delivery routines and later participated in the aerial fire fighting demonstration with a water “bomb” drop. Nigel Hobkins demonstrated both the Yak 52 (ZU-CWM) and the ever popular IS sponsored Extra 300. Both highly polished routines of a very professional nature. Warren Haslam also attended in the Zlin 50 with Martin Jacobs in a Jetranger III demonstrating civilian helicopters to the public. The airfield at Tzaneen has recently been revamped with a taxi-way in front of the existing hangars, the construction of four additional hangars and a new ablution building for specific use by the annual air show. In addition the organisers build a broadcast tower for use by the Capital Sounds outside broadcast team which is arguably the largest and equipped with the best facilities of any tower specifically build for this purpose in SA.

One team which always brings something new to the party is the “Snakes Microlight” formation team. Whatever your viewpoint on these machines, the “Snakes” have demonstrated that they can display a credible show. So far with credible displays they have changed public opinion on the type and their various routines which includes formation and individual routines with the use of air burst pyrotechnics makes for an interesting and colourful routine to view. However at Tzaneen, Jay Hyde as the leader trailed a 200m canvas “snake” as part of his routine for the very first time. No mean feat to display such a large canvas tube, yet he did this with incredible ease. This colourful “snake” was dropped in front of the crowd before forming up with the rest of the team for the remainder of the display. Expect something new or different from this team at almost every occasion.
