Danie Terblanche in the Bell 206
During the day Danie Terblanche performed a brilliant routine in a Bell 206 Jetranger. Needless to say this ex-SAAF helicopter pilot has been invited to Al Ein as a participant. Interestingly he performs the routine with a counter weight in place of the empty front seat as he is actually a bit light for the helicopter and therefore not entirely happy with the smoothness of the routine.

Other SAAF participation included the Silver Falcons and a Cheetah C no 370 called “Vlaggie” due to the colour scheme of the aircraft. Aircraft was displayed by Ettienne Potgieter after a gentle cruise via Graskop to Nelspruit. With the second display complete in the afternoon, the flight back was rather hot paced in order to catch a bit of the Super 14 final. Although a large number of the crowd found themselves in front of one of the big screens located at the airfield, the airshow nevertheless continued and it was still possible to catch part of the airshow.

The Wesbank Wizards attended in their Pitts Specials with the morning routine performed by Dennis Spence and Neil Trollip with Glen Warden and Neil Trollip looking after the afternoon display while Dennis Spence addressed the crowds. The “heart” performed for the crowd worked out exactly in the correct area dangling just above the tree line. To this feature the crowd enthusiastically applaud.

The show was closed by the Flying Lions as a four ship routine trailing thick smoke at dusk. Then it was the wait for total darkness for the fire dancers to entertain the crowd with the grant finale of CC Pocock and his team setting off fireworks to last a full 20 minutes. In all a well organised event with something for everyone (including the rugby enthusiast) with a number of unique aircraft on show. If the SAAF participation is anything to go by, the Hoedspruit airshow on 07 July 2007 is one not to be missed as a contender for SAAF participated show of the year!
