Page 3 of 3 Following Kroonstad a few weeks before, the SA Police Airwing with the Rapid Response and Dog Units staged a mock illegal diamond and fire arm deal - which demonstrated stolen vehicle recovery with the use of a Eurocopter AS 350 B3 piloted by Johan van Grunten from the Police Air Wing.
JAAP Joint Aviation Awareness Project is a venture by the local Bultfontein community to introduce aviation to children from the surrounding areas. The project was co-ordinated by Ismael Mkwena from SACAA (South African Civil Aviation Authority) and Nico Buys from Bultfontein. Around 1000 children from various backgrounds were introduced to the number of career opportunities available in aviation. As part of the Wheels & Wings theme the day was supported by the local motorcycle clubs with Harley Davidsons, BMWs and other two wheel monsters on display. This was in addition to the classic motor vehicles and a large number of farming equipment. As it was Super 14 rugby semi finals many elected to depart early but the big screen in the marquee tent served just as well with great rural hospitality. In all more than 50 aircraft attended.
