Page 1 of 5 EAA fly-in returns to Margate
Due to upgrades to Wonderboom airport the scheduled annual EAA fly-in held there had to be cancelled. In stepped Margate, where this fly-in had been held for many years in the past, and offered the EAA a return to the airfield as part of the Margate airshow. Unfortunately the weather gods did not play along and bad weather saw a low turnout. During arrivals day (the Friday) we watched a couple of the smaller aircraft battling to land in the heavy wind. In fact a Polaris landed and on its rollout was lifted back into the air by a gust of wind. The bad weather almost caused the non-arrival of the Piaggio P-166 Albatrosses from Johannesburg.ATNS |
