Page 9 of 12 V&A Waterfront Flypast: From 3 to 6 March 2006 three vessels of the German Marine docked in Cape Town at the popular tourist attraction the V&A Waterfront. Following vessels participated:
The vessels were accessible to the general public although under very tight security. Highlight was the fly past on Saturday 4 March 2006 with formations of both the Tornados and Cheetahs. Exercise review:On 14 March 2006 during a special parade at TFDC, Colonel Thorsten Poschwatta, Kommodore of 51 Sqdn "Immelmann" from Jagel, announced to the representative of the Luftwaffe, Lieutenant General Klaus-Peter Stieglitz, the Sqdn was successful in all exercises and is therefore fully operational in their new roll as an anti-ship Sqdn. The anti-ship capability is also representative of the entire German Luftwaffe. Elements of the Bundeswehr is destined to return to South Africa in the near future as the visitors found the facilities available at TFDC, Bredarsdorp to be world class with most importantly - excellent weather. Tornados and hopefully the EuroFighter are destined to thunder through the South African skies in the near future. |
