Page 12 of 12 The pylons used for the auxiliary fuel tanks also housed the self defence pylons for the AIM 9L variant of the Sidewinder. Only the training rounds were carried. Not all the Tornados were fitted with the AIM 9Ls when the Kormoran were fitted. Only one Kormoran anti-ship missile is fitted at any one time from an intermediate pylon bolted onto the outside left pylon of the three centre line main pylons fitted under the fuselage. No ECM pods were carried. Only no 4615 in the green NORM 83B Marine colour scheme were fitted with the buddy refuelling pod carried on the inner pylon of the three centre line pylons. The Tornados were finished in two different colour schemes. See the drawings in the previous section. Perhaps the easiest kit to use is the Revell IDS kit in 32 scale no 04700 as the kit feature a Tornado from AG 51 in a Previous Tiger Meet colour scheme. Most of the decals supplied can be adapted to model one of the “Good Hope II” Tornados. The Kormoran missile needs to be scratch built. To model the SAAF aircraft see the scale modelling notes and Knowledge Base articles on the Cheetah and Oryx. See also the Gallery.
