 8 Squadron

 Motto:

 Usque Admortem

 Meaning:

 Until death

Formed in February 1942 using Furies of No. 43 Squadron, and disbanded on August 24 of the same year, No. 8 Squadron never became operational and was one of the shortest-lived SAAF units of World War II. Its 100 airmen were transferred to No. 27 Squadron and it was not heard of again until January 1,1951.

The Squadron was then reinstated from the Active Citizen Force element of No. 24 Squadron, based at AFS Bloemspruit and flying Harvards. In the mid-1970s the unit became the fourth SAAF squadron to re-equip with Impala Mk Is. It operated some 'Impala' MkIIs late in 1975, and now operates both Mk Is and Mk IIs at Bloemspruit.

The sqdn was later the largest user of the MkII and served with distinction during the Border war. A flight of 'Impala' MkIIs were on permanent detachment to the operational area. Apart from 85 AFS  all remaining 'Impalas' serve with this sqdn. It is more than likely the last sqdn equipped with this aircraft.
