ImageThe slat actuators were cut from the etched metal sheet and cemented to the wing leading edge with superglue. When I dry fitted the slats I discovered that the actuators were too long and I had to cut off the length of the actuators some three millimetres to get the slats to fit in the right position I now put the model aside for a while and concentrated on other sub-assemblies.
ImageThe plastic airbrakes were substituted with new airbrakes made from etched metal parts. Like the ejection seat the airbrakes are very good representations of the originals. The airbrakes were painted polished aluminium. Also the underwing fuel tanks were assembled and painted polished aluminium.

The model was now ready for the application of decals. The decals for my South African Sabre were taken from Superscale sheet No.72-100 while the black and yellow identification stripes and stenciling came from Fujimi's decal sheet. These had to be trimmed to fit the new narrow slatted wings.

The various sub-assemblies were now cemented to the wings and fuselage. The wings received the pylons, fuel tanks and leading edge slats. Before the air brakes and the nose wheel well doors were cemented to the fuselage the interior was painted zinc chromate green with aluminium details.

In the port ammunition bay the three ammunition containers were made from plasticard and painted aluminium before they were cemented into the zinc chromate ammunition bay. The door was made from the Eduard etched metal parts and painted aluminium. Two copper wires were cemented to the bay and door. These were also painted aluminium.
