ImageMany Sabres, including the Fujimi replica, have an air intake on the starboard side of the fuselage, just in front of the airbrake. Studying photos of the actual aircraft I was modelling showed that this air intake was not installed on this aircraft. I therefore removed it with a sharp knife and sanded both.
ImageBefore painting I installed the windshield and filled Green Putty into the joins. These were then sanded and the windshield and cockpit were masked before a coat of primer was airbrushed onto the model. I used Xtracolor's FS.36231 interior grey as primer because this works very well for this job and it is the same colour as the cockpit interior.

When I started to apply the bare metal colour scheme the model was first given two coats of  Humbrol Metalcote polished aluminium. When this was dry I masked the model with Tamiya - masking tape and several panels received a coat of matt aluminium. The gun blast panels and the jet exhaust panel were given a mix of polished aluminium and gun metal.
