Page 4 of 4 Colour Scheme:Although used in a military role the Mercurius never used a military colour scheme, but rather a civilian colour scheme. The original colour scheme used natural metal for the underside and brilliant white for the top of the aircraft. The two colours were separated by a thin blue pinstripe. The orange, white and blue vertical stripes were applied to the tail section. National Castle markings were applied on the top and bottom of the wing and on the engine nacelles. A small serial number e.g. "01" were applied at the top of the tail. The words "SA Air Force SA Lugmag" were applied above the windows, with a small emblem of the SAAF flag. The emblem of 21 sqdn were applied to the right of cabin entry door. The word "Mercurius" were used on the nose of the aircraft. The second scheme saw the aircraft painted in a even more plain civilian colour scheme, but the colours of the SADF were used. The aircraft were painted in a all over brilliant white with three pin stripes of light blue, red and dark blue along the fuselage. All national markings were removed and the aircraft received civilian registration numbers. These were applied above the engine nacelles and more to the back of the back of the aircraft. This is unlike the Falcons with the civilian registration on the engine nacelle. The last colour scheme was introduced with the rationalization in the SAAF. The aircraft was painted in the colours of the SAAF. All over brilliant white, with three pin stripes of light blue, white and dark blue along the fuselage, were used. The civilian serial number were in the same area as the previous scheme, but the colour was dark blue. This scheme was used until the retirement of these aircraft. GALLERY - Opens in New Window.
