Modelling the Boeing:

As far as could be established only Heller and Plastyk released a 707-328C in 1/72 scale. Heller re-released a Boeing 707-300 in 1/72 scale in Europe. The type of engine is the only area which needs careful attention - ensure the kit has the correct engine. For a modelling project this is probably the easiest SAAF subject to do. The Boeings are similar to the commercial type for modelling purposes. If one depicts the aircraft during the Border War it's even easier! No National marking were carried, not even a serial number! (Except for the last two digits of the serial number on the wheel doors in black). This changed from SAAF 75 onwards. The words "South African Air Force", "Suid-Afrikaanse Lugmag" are applied to the fuselage, behind the cockpit. Letraset can be used for the wording. On the vertical stabiliser the New National flag is applied with the serial number and small Castle below the vertical stabiliser on the back part of the fuselage. See the gallery. The aircraft is painted white on top of fuselage with medium sea grey on the lower part and on top of wings. The engine pods are in natural metal. The blue line and top part of vertical stabiliser is similar in colour as found on the Castle insignia. Serial numbers 1415, 1417, 1419, 1421 and 1423.
