This extremely popular and successful small country airshow is always a pleasure to attend. Only a short (2.5 hour or so) pleasant drive from Johannesburg through a beautiful part of the country it is well worth attending. The breakfast is always a welcome sight accompanied with homemade country breads, so don’t eat along the way. |

This annual event held in the Northern Free State town of Parys is proving to be extremely popular. Even the forecast poor weather did not keep the visitors away, and the fly-in aircraft of around 80 visiting aircraft proved that. Arriving early in the morning enabled us to get a lay of the land and setup for the day. But then the weather started deteriorating. |

It has been almost 4 years since the last Polokwane Air Show (one of the first we reported on) and much has changed on the air show circuit in the intervening years, although much has remained the same. Having travelled through poor weather the IMG arrived in Polokwane early Saturday morning expecting the worst. In fact the IMG almost aborted the trip half way to Polokwane due to the adverse weather conditions. This weather had the various Gauteng airports in IMC thus the display acts scheduled for Polokwane were delayed. Around 10:30 am the arrival of an L-39 as well as the SAA 737 lifted the spirits of the crowds (if not the organisers) and the air show started. |
