The kit used for this model was the made by FireForce productions from the UK. As one of the first kits on the G6 and given the security issue surrounding SA Military products the detail is very basic. The model was completed several years ago to represent an example which accompanied 32 Battalion into Angola during 1988. Operations in the African bush resulted in the G6 always covered with leaves and small branches. This was added to the model. Paints were standard Humbrol with a bit of colour tuning. Due to the chemical composition of the early resin compounds some areas of the model have started to deteriorate. |

The Flying Legends Air Show does not have the romantic and exciting popularity of Farnborough and Oshkosh, but it is one of the biggest gatherings of vintage aircraft in Europe. This year it took place on the weekend of 7 – 8th July at its usual venue, the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, in the eastern part of England. It was organised by The Fighter Collection, one of the largest warbird operators in Europe. The weather played along for part of the show every day, giving both cloudy and sunny conditions. The show is run differently to our air shows in South Africa, in that it the flying only starts at 13:45 pm, giving the visitor’s time to visit all the sales stalls and museum halls in the morning. The 2007 airshow at TFDC saw a record attendance figure since the first airshow was staged in the Overberg area during 1997. Amongst the record attendees were visitors from as far as the United Kingdom, Poland, New Zealand, Sweden including a large contingent from Namibia. In addition enthusiasts from all over South Africa took an extended drive to the southern most tip of Africa, frantically tried every effort to board a commercial flight or made use of the “fly-in” option as one of the record number of more than 160 aircraft to attend this year’s show. The reason…? LIVE air to air missile firing! |
