I always have fond memories of my childhood whenever I look at this model in my display cabinet. At one point in time, as a wee young lad, we stayed in Pietersburg. Mirages, Sabres and later Impalas from 85 AFS flew over our house constantly doing “touch-and-goes”. My school was close to the airbase and situated directly underneath the flight path on the runway approach. I can distinctly remember a day when a Mirage, passing through the sound barrier, caused some window panes of our kitchen to crack and the plastic cover of the tube lighting to flung open. Awesome experience for me, less so for the parents though! And then there was the day I ran out off the class, drawn by an unfamiliar jet sound. It turned out to be a couple of Buccaneers on their finals, with everything “hanging out”. What an awesome sight! Ok, enough nostalgia for now. |

The annual South Coast airshow held over the Easter weekend in the KZN South Coast town of Margate was the 2008 airshow season opening event. The southern KZN coast is a beautiful region to visit and as always the added bonus of the airshow is the cherry on top. Joining the lemming rush (Easter long weekend) to the coast we arrived in heavy squalls of rain. This inauspicious start did not bode well for the weekends festivities. Read More... |

This year’s annual Bultfontein Fly-In saw the IMG team visiting this Free State town again to enjoy the country side (resplendent green and ripe for the forthcoming harvests) and hospitality of the country. The folk at Bultfontein (and the other events of this ilk) go out their way to make the visitor feel at home. Read More.... |
